By Viola Davis RN BSN with Unhappy Taxpayer & Voter
The DeKalb County Delegation held its first of three town hall meetings Thursday, December 13th at Cross Keys High School. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss important issues and initiatives likely to come before the General Assembly in the 2013 Legislative Session. The delegation also wants to hear comments and concerns from their constituents.
The DeKalb County Representatives that attended the town hall meeting on Thursday, December 13th include:
- Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur)
- Rep. Scott Holcomb (D-Atlanta)
- Rep. Mike Jacobs (R-Atlanta)
- Rep. Tom Taylor (R-Dunwoody)
- Rep. Michele Henson (D-Stone Mountain)
- Rep. Dar’Shun Kendrick (D-Lithonia)
The most explosive issue discussed during the meeting started with the first question concerning the issue of MARTA – Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. (www.itsmarta.com)
The Attendee stated he would hear a joke about Atlanta which asked, “What does MARTA stands for?” He went on to answer the question by stating, “Moving African rapidly through Atlanta.”
He stated that DeKalb and Fulton County should “ignore the 50/50 thing” and “secede from the State of Georgia”. The Attendee made the charge that Rep. Mike Jacobs was doing the binding of the racist by attacking MARTA.
Another Attendee asked a question on the issue of privatization of MARTA. Rep. Mike Jacobs gave information on the KPMG audit located on the MARTA website that identifies ways to cut cost and raise revenues.
